Reaching out to help solve the homeless pet overpopulation problem

What we are doing about the pet overpopulation problem in the Greater Houston/Galveston area.

Since the inception of SAVE we've always had an active community outreach program. We believe that the easiest way to cut down on the number of animals that have to be rescued is to not have them born in the first place.

When we see people in need we reach out to help. When people have puppies or kittens to surrender for adoption, we always get the mom and any other unaltered pets fixed to stop the cycle. We have also helped hundreds of good Samaritans who found kittens or feral cats. We work with them to trap and fix all the cats in a particular area, thus reducing the number of animals available to breed.

Sometimes the kittens will be friendly and are able to enter our adoption program. We arrange with our partner vets to fix and vaccinate all of these animals. Since our FIX UR PET clinic is currently focused on Galveston County animals, SAVE funds all of the community outreach surgeries, with the help of generous animal lovers like you. Over the last 10 years, we have fixed approximately 700 dogs, 250 owned cats, and 2800 community-feral cats through local veterinary partners. If more low-cost resources were available in the Harris County area, we could fix even more. Need help? Check the resources below. In Galveston County, contact us about our FREE spay neuter clinic Fix Ur Pet Galveston County at fixurpetgalco@gmail.com.

We continue to support all efforts to bring affordable, accessible spay/neuter services to Harris and surrounding counties. Programs such as The Empty Shelter Project-Texas and Barrio Dogs Fixit Program are, like SAVE, providing additional resources for underserved areas of the Greater Houston area.
